I should be sequenced because...: I am one of the few plant on this list, and I represent an important food crop (the brassica's) and I live in salt rich habitats.

About Me::
I am a member of the brassica family, an economically important food crop throughout the world. Also because i am salt tolerant that may be an important consideration for the purposes of research as plant breeders are interested in plant species such as brassica’s which can be grown on salt contaminated land.
My genetic makeup is quite complicated. I am a hexaploid with six copies of seven chromosomes giving a total of 42 chromosomes in each cell. In contrast, humans are diploid with two copies of 23 chromosomes giving a total of 46 chromosomes.
Another very important hexaploid plant species is wheat. Wheat because of its complex genome organisation is thought to have around 160,000 to 300.000 genes whereas humans have around 20,000 to 25,000 genes.
