The best feature of the pill millipede or any other species of millipede is their contribution to the ecosystem they inhabit. In the case of the pill millipede they help digest the decaying organic matter such as leaves (which in the UK around this time of year we have a lot of!) this is an essential and over looked service provided by millipedes, though not extremely exciting, it’s very important.
Such species who provide these services could be used in the future to help with crop production, as they help release nutrient in to the soil.
